HOW YOU CAN HELP

Why we welcome your support
We are delighted to forge links with local schools to help us raise awareness of AAIR and how asthma and allergies are affecting an increasing number of young people. Becoming involved with AAIR is a great way of supporting a local charity involved in cutting-edge medical research into widespread conditions which affect more children in the UK than in any other county.

Why support asthma and allergy research
One in 12 adults and one in ten children in the UK are being treated for asthma. Recent research shows 48% of the UK population will suffer from one or more allergy at some time in their lives with as many as half of those affected being children. The incidence of asthma and allergies in the UK have increased three-fold over the past 20 years, we now have one of the highest incidence of allergy and asthma in the world. Yet the UK has a chronic shortage of allergy specialists - less than 30 consultant NHS allergy doctors nationwide.

AAIR
AAIR (Asthma, Allergy & Inflammation Research) is a Hampshire-based charity, which supports pioneering asthma and allergy research at The University of Southampton’s School of Medicine. The department consists of groups led by world-renowned senior academic and clinical scientists whose combined areas of expertise provide one of the world’s most highly regarded forces in the fight against asthma and allergies. Their research is recognised worldwide with several scientists being international experts in regular demand for national media interviews.
Since AAIR was founded in 1990 it has raised more than £1million towards this work.

How AAIR can help you

  • We are happy to welcome small groups of pupils to our state-of-the art laboratories to meet the experts and see where the funding goes.
  • We can arrange visits to your school by top researchers to give educational presentations about asthma and allergies. This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to learn from experts in their field, more about these common medical diseases: how they affect the body and the pioneering work and breakthroughs being made by the AAIR team.
  • We usually press release (and photograph where appropriate) all visits and fundraising activities to publicly thank the schools and pupils.
  • All fundraising activities are usually featured in our quarterly newsletter, which has a circulation of over 2,000.
  • All fundraising activities will receive a certificate of thanks.

Charitable donations
AAIR relies entirely on voluntary contributions to support the research team and their work. Our small staff and close relationship with the research team ensures resources are used wisely and to maximum benefit.
If your company would like to consider supporting a worthwhile charity, especially one which encompasses health, medical research, children/youth or education, we would love to hear from you.
