PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
- Dr Holloway leads The Asthma Genetics Group (a collaboration between the Allergy and Inflammation Research AAIR division and Human Genetics Division) at Southampton University Hospital
- Dr Holloway was a key researcher in the recent major discovery by The Asthma Genetics Group of the role played be ADAM33 gene - one of the first asthma genes to have been identified - in the development of asthma
- Dr Holloway was appointed lecturer in the School of Medicine in 2005.
- As well as his on-going research programme Dr Holloway contributes to Clinical Pharmacology Teaching.

AREA OF EXPERTISE
Asthma has been shown to have a strong genetic basis. Dr Holloway specialises in this area - researching how far genetics influence our susceptibility to asthma, allergies and other lung diseases.
RESEARCH AIMS
Following the recent highlight of the group’s discovery of the ADAM 33 gene Dr Holloway is pursuing the search to better understand how this gene functions and its role in the progression of asthma.
Other aspects of Dr Holloway’s research include the discovery of new asthma genes and understanding how people respond differently to the medications they take for their asthma.

Dr Holloway is a leading expert in his field. His key involvement in the discovery of the ADAM 33 gene has ensured he is regularly in demand to present and give interviews about all aspects of genetics in relation to asthma and other related conditions.
