Asthma and allergic disease are said to have reached epidemic proportions in the UK with over 40% of the population expected to suffer from one or more allergy at some time in their lives, with as many as half of those affected being children. Asthma kills one person in the UK every 6 hours while one in 12 adults and one in ten children in the UK are being treated for the condition.

AAIR relies entirely on voluntary contributions to support the research team and their work. Our small staff and close relationship with the research team ensures resources are used wisely and to maximum benefit.

About AAIR 
AAIR is a Hampshire-based charity, which supports pioneering asthma and allergy research at The University of Southampton’s School of Medicine. The department consists of groups led by world-renowned senior academic and clinical scientists whose combined areas of expertise provide one of the worlds most highly regarded forces in the fight against asthma and allergies. Their research is recognised worldwide with several scientists being international experts in regular demand for national media interviews.
Since AAIR was founded in 1990 it has raised more than £1million towards this work. The team is always happy to welcome visitors to their laboratories at The Southampton General Hospital to show where the funding goes and introduce the research team.
