Why we welcome your support
AAIR would like to build genuine partnerships with local businesses, which are mutually beneficial. Companies which feel able to provide support by way of sponsorship, fundraising etc. will find plenty of opportunities to get involved with AAIR what ever their budget. However, partnerships need not be founded on financial support. We are pleased to forge links with businesses, which help us raise awareness of AAIR and our work. Adopting AAIR as your company's chosen charity is a great way of supporting a local charity involved in cutting-edge medical research into widespread conditions.
Why support asthma and allergy research
One in 12 adults and one in ten children in the UK are being treated for asthma. Recent research shows 30% of the UK population will suffer from one or more allergy at some time in their lives with as many as half of those affected being children. The incidence of asthma and allergies in the UK have increased three-fold over the past 20 years, we now have one of the highest incidence of allergy and asthma in the world. Yet the UK has a chronic shortage of allergy specialists - less than 30 consultant allergy doctors nationwide.
AAIR
AAIR (Asthma, Allergy & Inflammation Research) is a Hampshire-based charity, which supports pioneering asthma and allergy research at The University of Southampton’s School of Medicine. The department consists of groups led by world-renowned senior academic and clinical scientists whose combined areas of expertise provide one of the world’s most highly regarded forces in the fight against asthma and allergies. Their research is recognised worldwide with several scientists being international experts in regular demand for national media interviews.
Since AAIR was founded in 1990 it has raised more than £1million towards this work. The team is always happy to welcome visitors to their laboratories at The Southampton General Hospital to show where the funding goes and introduce the research team.
